I stumbled into the word of personal finance at 21, after financing a car I couldn’t afford.
For the first year I felt like I had made it but I soon realized that all my money was going towards payments and I had no money left at the end of the month.
That’s when I started to aggressively pay down debt.
My next goal was to save money for a house. I maxed out yearly RRSP contributions while investing in index mutual funds at the bank.
In 2019 I was finally able to use the HBTC First Time Home Buyers Tax Credit to withdraw 35k for my first property. I bought it in Nov 2019 and started investing in self directed accounts.
This leads me to today, I have built these habits over the years to try to spend less than I earn and to save the difference. It hasn’t been easy but I am motivated seeing the gains and the progress I have made up to now.
